Creating content that is meaningful, informational, and relevant can present a challenging obstacle I get it. I’ve been there. At the beginning of this business I was at a loss for what to create, what would help others, and what was relevant to current trends.
This post builds off of ‘Why Visuals Matter in Social Media Marketing ’
In this blog post we will be going over 10 Tips to consider when creating your content! So if you’re ready to start creating meaningful content and building your engagement with your targeted audience, then keep reading!
Knowing your Audience – Knowing who your target audience is, is the first step. The second step to this is understanding your target audience; just because you know someone as an acquaintance doesn’t mean you understand them like a friend. Once you understand your target audience, you can then take the first step to creating visuals that will matter. Take into consideration aspects such as interests, preferences, and which platforms you’re most likely to find them on. Then ask questions like, what color themes would be best? Vibrant tones, Neutral Tones or Muted Tones? Are they going to be more interested in photographs or illustrations/graphic designs? The goal is to tailor your visuals to resonate and connect with your ideal audiences’ preferences, in order to increase the likelihood of engagement.
Staying Aligned with Brand Identity – Although the goal is to draw your target audience in with colors and graphics that’ll catch their eye; it’s also important that they know who you are as a brand apart from the industry you want to help/work with/in. Your visuals should still align with your brand’s personality, overall aesthetic & color palette. Now this could be in the form of using the same filter, a certain style of photography, or integrating your logo, while maintaining the cohesive brand identity that ultimately strengthens your brands recognition.
Incorporate a Compelling Story – Storytelling is a powerful way to use your visuals. Write down the narrative you want to capture and the emotion you want to resonate with your audience, and then build your design off of those aspects! This could be done through showcasing the journey of one of your most purchased products, highlighting your team to show the human side of the brand or sharing UGC (user-generated content) to let others tell the story of your brand/product.
Optimize Content for Each Platform – Each social media platform has distinct user behaviors & specifications; make sure you are tailoring your content to suit the specifications of each platform. For example, the graphic that is created for Instagram will need to be reformatted for platforms such as X & LinkedIn; whether that be cropping the image or just using the words.
Strategically Incorporating Brand Elements – Don’t be afraid to integrate your brands key elements, such as taglines, logos, or brand hashtags that are strategically placed within your visuals. Make sure it is intentional yet subtle. A logo that is well-placed or a hashtag that is consistently used can reinforce your brands presence without overwhelming the visual content. Balancing the overall visual narrative with the brand elements will be key.
Prioritizing Quality over Quantity – Quality stands out in this era of content abundance. Take the time to invest and find resources to create high-quality visuals that will align with your brands standards. This could mean investing in a professional photographer, using graphic design tools, or doing a collaboration with skilled freelancers. Ultimately the effort put into quality content will pay off with your audiences perception and engagement.
Experimenting with Different Visual Formats – Try to incorporate different styles of content to see what works best for your audience. This could mean trying static images, carousels, reels, UGC, or infographics. Track the analytics of each style of content to see what performs best and resonates with your audience the most. This will help to keep your content appealing and fresh to your audience!
Implementing the Power of User-Generated Content (UGC) – This will work best for product based businesses! Encourage your audience to take photos of your product and submit it for visual content. This will not only diversify your feed but also incorporate a community with your audience and allows them to feel apart of your brand. Sharing UGC with the proper credit (Tagging the original Creator), showcases real-life experiences with your brand. This will not only expand your content creating resources but also add authenticity to your brand as a whole.
Optimizing for Mobile Viewing – Most social media users will access platforms through cellphones. Make sure that your content is optimized for users viewing on a mobile device. This will include mobile-friendly dimensions, ensuring that text is readable on small screens, and testing how your visuals will appear on different devices.
Review & Engage with Analytics – Make sure to regularly analyze the performance of your content. Understanding which content will resonate most with your audience, which CTA’s (Call-to-Actions) drive the most engagement, or what time of day is most optimal for posting. Implement these insights to refine and iterate your content strategy on a continuous basis.
